In cooperation with the police, we placed a Holobox in the Red Light District in Amsterdam. In doing so, we hope to contribute to solving a cold case from 2009 concerning the murder of 19-year-old Hungarian sex worker Bernadett 'Betty' Szabó, who was killed in her room on the Oudezijds Achterburgwal in 2009. Despite extensive research, the perpetrator was never found, and the case remained unsolved.
In an ultimate attempt to get new information after fifteen years, we created an animated hologram inspired by Betty for the police. This hologram is a realistic, moving image that asks passers-by for help and writes “HELP” into the condensation on the window.
In addition to the hologram, the windows of the building have stickers with information about the murder and the victim. Inside, Betty's latest moving images and footage from the murder scene, as well as a documentary about her life and the case, are shown. With this campaign, we hope to draw attention to this cold case in a unique way, and hopefully find a perpetrator.
